At Pickering Village Dental, our Ajax dentists perform tooth extractions and wisdom teeth removal when a tooth cannot be saved or is causing issues for your oral health.
What is a Tooth Extraction?
When we extract a tooth, we remove it from its socket in the bone. Our dentists at Pickering Village Dental perform extractions only when a less invasive option would prove ineffective, or if keeping the tooth will compromise your oral health.
Common reasons for extracting a tooth include severe tooth damage due to disease or injury and problematic wisdom teeth. Teeth are also sometimes pulled to prepare for other dental procedures.
At Pickering Village Dental, tooth extractions/wisdom tooth removals are provided by our team of General Dentists.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
The last set of molars to erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth are wisdom teeth. These usually emerge for individuals between 17 and 25 years of age.
While this third set of teeth is not always functional, it may crowd out other teeth as they develop. These teeth may also cause oral hygiene issues. In these cases, your dentist may recommend removing them.
Repairing Excessive Damage
Your dentist will work to save a tooth whenever possible, as we prefer to leave extraction for a last resort. However, some circumstances such as gum disease, injury or excessive decay will require extraction.
If you have a damaged tooth that needs to be extracted, your dentist will explain which tooth replacement options are available. These may include dental crowns, bridges and dentures.
