At Pickering Village Dental Office in Ajax, our dentists offer dental sedation options to make patients more comfortable during long procedures, and to calm anxious patients.

What is Dental Sedation?
At Pickering Village Dental Office, we use a variety of techniques to ensure our patients feel comfortable during dental procedures. Dental sedation options are on that list, including nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation.
Our dentists can help determine if dental sedation is right for you. In addition to offering sedation options, we work at your pace, provide calm reassurance as needed and take breaks when required.
Support for Anxious Patients
Do you experience anxiety or fear around dental appointments? The team at Pickering Village Dental Office has a number of practices in place, including dental sedation options, to help you relax during your appointments. The oral sedation will be monitored by a Registered Nurse.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
This medication, inhaled through a mask placed over the nose and mouth, calms patients even as they remain awake and able to communicate. A short time after you start to inhale the gas, you will start to feel significantly more relaxed. Nitrous oxide also tends to reduce gag reflex, increase pain threshold, create the illusion that time is passing more quickly and lessen anxiety.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in liquid or pill form. Take this medication orally before your dental appointment. While oral sedatives leave you awake for the procedure, they produce a calming effect that significantly relaxes you. At Pickering Village Dental Office, this type of sedation will be monitored by a Registered Nurse.
