At Pickering Village Dental in Ajax, our dentists offer dental sedation options as a way of helping to support our patients' comfort during long procedures or when experiencing dental anxiety
What is Dental Sedation?
At Pickering Village Dental, we use a variety of techniques to work to help our patients feel comfortable during dental procedures. Dental sedation options are on that list, including nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation.
Our dentists can help determine if dental sedation may be right for you. In addition to offering sedation options, we believe in working at your pace, providing reassurance as needed and taking breaks when required.
Support for Anxious Patients
Do you experience anxiety or fear around dental appointments? The team at Pickering Village Dental has a number of practices in place, including dental sedation options, that are intended to help you relax during your appointments.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
This medication, inhaled through a mask placed over the nose and mouth, can calm patients even as they remain awake and able to communicate. A short time after you start to inhale the gas, patients often start to feel relaxed. Nitrous oxide also tends to reduce gag reflex, increase pain threshold, create the illusion that time is passing more quickly and lessen anxiety.
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in liquid or pill form. Take this medication orally before your dental appointment. While oral sedatives leave you awake for the procedure, they produce a calming effect that can relax you.
